Job Opening – Deputy Town Clerk – Dunbarton, NH
As Deputy Town Clerk, you will regularly interact with the public, perform various office and
administrative duties, and fill in when the Town Clerk is unavailable.
On a given day, you may:
- Issue vehicle registrations & complete Title applications as a DMV Municipal Agent.
- Issue Certified copies of Birth, Death, Marriage, and Divorce Certificates; and issue and
record Marriage Licenses – for the NH Division of Vital Records Administration. - Issue Dog Licenses and update their rabies vaccination records.
- Handle voter registrations, absentee ballots, and other Election-related duties.
- Handle customer payments; prepare daily deposits; run and check reports.
- Prepare Appointment papers and administer Oaths of Office.
- Answer customer questions about any of the above, via phone, e-mail, & in person.
- Search State of NH RSAs and other laws. • Search local records and history.
- Notarize documents for customers. • Prepare mailings & File items.
- Communicate with other Departments. • Call/E-mail various agencies for support.
You will receive training. No regular meetings. Frequent interruptions. Each day is different.
It will be challenging – especially at first – because there is so much to learn. And “at first”
can last for months, and even years for some things.
How to succeed: Be kind to everyone, but clear and firm regarding laws and procedures.
Pay attention to details. Keep what’s confidential, confidential – always. Remain calm.
Hours & Benefits:
- Part-time, approx. 20 hours/week, mostly while the Town Clerk’s office is open.
- Occasional 40 hour work weeks to attend training, cover the office, or for Elections.
- Partially paid holidays.
- Be involved in your local community – and have a short commute to the office!
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a resident of Dunbarton & citizen of the United States (per RSAs 41:18; 91:2).
- Have a High School diploma, or its equivalent.
