GENERAL SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Road Agent performs maintenance and repair work and operates equipment to
maintain town roads and property. Must be on call for snowstorms and emergency road work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs manual work in digging, raking, leveling, rock picking, backfilling and compacting
operations and many other manual tasks.
• Performs roadside maintenance; cuts brush, cleans ditches, patches pavement, removes dead
animals, and keeps roadway clear of obstacles and debris.
• Performs repairs and clean-up work due to emergencies such as flash floods.
• Removes snow and ice, including but not limited to, snowplowing with Highway Department
vehicles, snow blowing, and shoveling.
• Trims trees and removes brush.
• Loads truck with appropriate equipment for daily tasks.
• Ensures adherence to all safety rules and regulations.
• Performs various labor-intensive tasks, including lifting heavy materials, shoveling, and sweeping.
• Installs, maintains and repairs catch basins, culverts, guardrails, signs, posts, and snow fences.
• Performs repairs and maintenance on Highway Department buildings.
• Performs repairs and maintenance on equipment and checks for operational safety.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other related duties as requested.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Prior directly related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge and skill in snowplowing, salting, sanding, and operating equipment, under various
severe weather conditions.
• Ability to work with others with minimum supervision.
• Must be a responsible, reliable worker.
• Must have the ability to obtain all required licenses.
• Knowledge of operating a loader, dump truck, and various types of Highway Department equipment.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques and mechanical skills.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Must have a NH CDL B License.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Individual operates various Highway Department equipment including snowplow, York rake, loader,
backhoe, dump trucks, grinders, compressors, chippers, and any other equipment assigned to the

department. Hand tools such as nail guns, saws torches, drills, and the like are used in the maintenance
and repair of equipment. Individuals will be required to wear all safety equipment and adhere to all rules of safety when using all equipment.

Heavy lifting/pushing of 75 pounds or more is regularly required. Good physical condition is required to perform heavy physical labor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions, extremes in temperature, humid conditions, traffic hazards, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, sharp blades, instruments and other sharp objects, fumes, gases or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, burns, and explosion. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May be asked to assist in the supervision of the work of others, including temporary workers. Responsible for training, assigning, and checking work, while performing the same kind of work. Carries out all supervisory functions in accordance with Town rules, policies, and applicable laws.
