Police Officer Full Time

UPDATE - January 24, 2025: The Town of North Hampton New Hampshire is accepting applications for the position of full-time Police Officer. The applicant may be certified as a full-time police officer or eligible for certification through the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council. The Town of North Hampton offers a competitive salary and benefits package.  Pay: $29.88 - $36.83 per hour depending on experience. This position will remain open until it is filled.

Job Summary

Performs responsible and visible law enforcement duties including patrol, investigation, traffic control, and a variety of other duties to preserve peace and protect life and property in the Town. Enforces Federal and State laws, local ordinances, and by-laws.

 Minimum Qualifications Required

High school graduate or equivalent (associate degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement and/or previous law enforcement experience preferred); certification by New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council as a full-time Police Officer or eligibility for certification; possession of a valid driver’s license; demonstrated computer, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to meet the physical fitness entrance requirements of the New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Council; ability to pass criminal and financial background checks prior to employment.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Officers who currently hold a certification will be subject to a streamlined background process. 

The North Hampton Police Department conducts pre-employment medical, drug, and alcohol testing for all candidates. The Town of North Hampton is an Equal Opportunity Employer. 

Candidates must pass the physical agility test to be invited to an oral board interview. Top candidates that pass the oral board will be recommended for an interview with the Chief of Police. 

Conditional Offer: Receive a conditional offer of employment pending completion of the subsequent phases:

  • Background Investigation: Pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Polygraph Examination: Pass the polygraph test administered by a certified examiner.
  • Psychological Examination: Pass the psychological tests and interviews with a qualified psychologist administrator.
  • Medical Examination: Pass a comprehensive medical examination conducted by a licensed physician to confirm eligibility to enter the NH Police Academy, if applicable.

The Department reserves the right to waive portions of the testing process.
