A police dispatcher is the lifeline of an agency, serving as the critical link between the community and officers in the field. Without them, the wheels of public safety wouldn’t turn as smoothly, making them an invaluable part of any law enforcement team. The Belmont Police Department is seeking a highly motivated person to fill that role.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all police-related calls, determining priority and dispatching appropriate units.
  • Monitor radio communications and ensure officer safety by maintaining situational awareness.
  • Maintain and retrieve records, reports, and other critical information for officers and relevant departments.
  • Handle multiple calls simultaneously while ensuring clear and accurate communication.
  • Assist the public with inquiries, issue pistol permit applications, and perform some clerical duties.
  • Maintain detailed logs of all calls, dispatches, and department interactions.

     

Qualifications:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Prior communications experience and familiarity with dispatch operations.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act decisively in high-pressure situations.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, record-keeping, and general office procedures.
  • Ability to work well with law enforcement officers, public agencies, and community members.

     

Training & Certification:

  • Successful candidates must complete the State Police Online Telecommunications System (S.P.O.T.S.) certification course and a basic dispatch school within one year of hire.
  • Completion of the department’s field training program is required.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shifts, Monday – Friday NO Weekends/ NO Midnights
  • Day and Evening shifts are available
  • 11 Paid Holidays
  • Overtime opportunities available
