POSITION:     ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR – Full time; exempt; non-union

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

 

SALARY:            $37.34 - $50.81; dependent upon education and experience

 

SUMMARY:        The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for the management of the Town’s wastewater system and solid waste disposal and recycling activities. Reports to and operates under the general supervision of the DPW Director. Must be knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection facilities, regulations, and construction practices.  Must be able to use hand tools and testing equipment in the operation and maintenance of valves, pumps, samplers, and flow recorders and knowledgeable in areas of solid waste disposal, recycling technology and practice.  Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and work effectively with the Town Council, Town Manager, Department Heads, other employees of the Town, and the public.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1.         Reviews all plans and specifications for the construction of new sewer lines and facilities.

2.         Forwards plans to appropriate state agencies for review.

3.         Inspects all sewer construction for compliance with applicable codes and construction standards.

4.         Operates and maintains siphon and pump stations.

5.         Prepares the Sewer Divisions annual budget request for submission to the Public Works Director.

6.         Works with Manchester and Merrimack Officials and Town staff in the preparation and mailing of sewer utility bills.

7.         Answers questions from customers, developers and contractors with regard to sewer service.

8.         Works with transfer station personnel to implement recycling programs and meet State rules for the operation of solid waste facilities.

9.         Serves on the Recycling Committee and other advisory committees as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

ü  Current State of NH Wastewater Operator’s Permit Class I, New England Wastewater Collection System Operator Class certification, State of NH Class 3 or 4 Landfill Operator permit; or obtain certifications in an agreed amount of time;

 

ü  Possess a vocational or technical degree in engineering or engineering sciences, or other related area from an accredited vocational or technical college, or other college or university;

 

ü  Three (3) years’ experience in the operation of municipal wastewater facilities,

 

ü  Any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Any combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to the above qualifications, will be considered.
