PAY RANGE - $29.37 - $37.24/hr - plus a comprehensive benefits package

General Statement of Duties:

Installs and maintains emergency equipment; performs directly related work as required.

Examples of Essential Work:

  • Repairs and installs a wide variety of emergency equipment, including emergency lights, sirens, spotlights, headlight flashers, direction signaling devices and related;
  • Identifies problems with equipment through troubleshooting electronic equipment;
  • Installs and maintains underground and aerial municipal fire alarm systems;
  • Installs computer networks;
  • Installs and removes two-way radios and associated equipment;
  • Tests radio transmitter power output, antenna performance and radio receiver sensitivity;
  • Reads and interprets schematics, block diagrams and line drawings;
  • Prepares as-built drawings and sketches of devices;
  • Installs and removes emergency lighting and sound equipment in public safety vehicles;
  • Maintains thorough and accurate records of installation and repair procedures, including a record of all radios for Federal Communications Commission, (FCC), records;
  • Informs supervisor of parts needed for order and any anticipated large batch orders;
  • Constructs and modifies simple printed circuit boards with discrete and IC components;
  • Programs microprocessor based radios, (both conventional and trunked radio systems repair on synthesized radios);
  • Explains capabilities and operations of emergency equipment to personnel using the systems, including responding to situations in which working equipment is being misused;
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions; and more..

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, supplemented by one years, training in electronics and/or microprocessor technology; and
  • Some experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications:

  • FCC General Class Radiotelephone Operator’s License;
  • Class B CDL with Airbrake endorsements;
  • On-call status.
