Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Highway Department

The Town of Sunapee is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Mechanic in the Highway Department. This is a full-time non-exempt position.

Reporting to the Highway Director, this individual will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and NH State Inspection of all Town-owned gas-powered vehicles, diesel powered vehicles and equipment, and maintenance of miscellaneous small gas- and diesel-powered tools. The mechanic also develops and implements vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules in compliance with manufacturers’ recommendations for all vehicles and equipment.

This is a fully benefited position eligible for health, dental and life insurance, and the New Hampshire state pension plan. The salary range is between $55,000-$65,000 a year, commensurate with experience.

This position requires a valid NH CDL A license with air brake and trailer endorsements. This position is required to provide their own tools. A Mechanic Approval Card shall be required within one year of employment to conduct NH State inspections of the Town’s vehicles and equipment. Strong problem-solving and multi-tasking abilities are also necessary. Qualification requirements include a High School diploma or G.E.D. and Vocational/Technical training in maintenance and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment. Three to five years of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience substituting on a year-for-year basis.
