Deputy Chief of Emergency Medical Services

The Town of Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue Department seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of 
Deputy Chief of Emergency Medical Services. This is a full time position, 42 hours per week.  The Deputy
Chief of EMS is appointed by the Town Manager and reports to the Fire Chief.

SALARY RANGE:  Salary range: Dependent upon qualification and experience.

Position Purpose:
The Deputy Chief of EMS shall supervise creation, implementation and day-to-day operations of the EMS function of Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue as we transition to ambulance transport. The Deputy Chief of EMS serves under the general direction of the Fire Chief. The Deputy Chief shall provide support to the Fire Chief in planning, organizing, managing and leading the department and shall perform the duties of the Fire Chief in the absence of the Chief and Deputy Chief of Operations. Shall perform all other related work as assigned and required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education, Training and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred; plus 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in firefighting, fire prevention and inspection work, including five years in a supervisory rank; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Current CPAT license or eligible for a lateral transfer in accordance with NH Administrative Rules. Valid New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Commercial Driver License Class B with tank and air brake endorsements, National Registry Paramedic certification, Level II Firefighter, Fire Officer I and II, Fire Inspector I, ICS/NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. Upper-level ICS and Fire Inspector certifications may be obtained within 2 years of hire or at the discretion of the Fire Chief based on availability. Haz-Mat-Operations, with additional certifications preferred.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of modern firefighting and EMS practices and techniques;
knowledge of strategy and tactics; fire apparatus, tools and equipment; knowledge of the State Fire
Code and general building practices, knowledge of state and federal laws that apply to the fire
service/first responders and thorough knowledge of emergency first aid and how to administer it.
Advanced knowledge of ambulance transport laws, rules, policies and procedures.

Ability: Ability to provide emergency medical services when required; train and instruct in the
use of machines and equipment; plan, assign and supervise the work of others; maintain records
and reports; and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. Must
maintain the confidentiality of department members regarding personnel issues with
patients/victims and representatives of the community. The Deputy Chief of EMS will take a
leading role in the design, implementation, and delivery of fire-based EMS including ambulance
transport.

Skill: Skill in the operation of vehicles, emergency apparatus, and specialized fire equipment; skill
functions as required for firefighters; skill functions as required for paramedics, and proficiency
with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the internet and various commonly recognized fire, hazmat
and EMS software programs, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Permanent residency within the boundaries of Wolfeboro is preferred or 30 minutes of Central
Fire Station.
