PAY RANGE - $21.32 - $30.39/hr - plus a comprehensive benefits package

General Statement of Duties:

Performs general and finish carpentry work, maintains electrical, structural and mechanical systems and performs a variety of other maintenance and repair, duties for municipal buildings, schools and, parks and other related facilities; performs directly related work as required.

Examples of Essential Work:

  • Maintains and repairs all heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
  • Repairs, replaces and installs plumbing components and related plumbing fixtures;
  • Troubleshoots, installs and repairs electrical equipment;
  • Performs chemical testing of steam generating boilers, hot water heating boilers, chilled water condensers and related equipment;
  • Maintains and repairs municipal buildings and related facilities (i.e. roofs, tile, concrete and wooden floors, painting and refinishing interior walls, ceilings, floors and trim;
  • Tests and repairs water back flow protection devices to ensure proper operation and prevent contamination;
  • Completes carpentry work related to the fabrication of frame buildings and structures, (including constructing walls and roofing), repairing and maintaining window frames, sashes, door frames, doors, hardware and locks and related structural features, prepares sketches of carpentry work to be done;
  • Performs miscellaneous, welding duties, including fabrication within building structures;
  • Repairs and/or constructs concrete structures;
  • May be required to handle and/or manage hazardous waste (and if so, appropriate training will be provided as needed);
  • Completes tests of fire safety systems;
  • Completes thorough and accurate reports on maintenance activities;
  • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations;
  • Constructs forms, builds frames, benches, bleachers, playground equipment, picnic tables, barricades and related carpentry work for Parks, Recreation & Cemetery facilities.
  • Repairs, maintains, modifies and fabricates frame buildings and structures, including constructing walls and roofing;
  • Prepares sketches of carpentry work to be done;
  • Builds, repairs, restores and maintains furniture and cabinets;
  • Operates all hand tools associated with carpentry work and power tools.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and guidelines regarding carpentry, electrical, plumbing and maintenance work, including the proper handling/disposal of hazardous waste.

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, supplemented by trades training (classroom and/or on-the-job) in assigned area of responsibility; and
  • Considerable experience in building maintenance, carpentry and related operations; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications:

  • Valid New Hampshire Driver's License.
