General Statement of Duties

Performs professional duties in support of planning and zoning administration and the development review process; performs directly related work as required.

Examples of Essential Work:

  • Reviews building and development proposals to determine compliance with zoning regulations;
  • Processes applications for voluntary merger of properties for compliance with City and State regulations;
  • Interprets and applies applicable local, state, and federal regulations;
  • Processes applications for sign permits for compliance with local and state regulations;
  • Researches permitting history and ownership of properties to determine zoning compliance;
  • Conducts property inspections to determine zoning compliance;
  • Prepares materials of zoning code violations for use by the City’s legal department;
  • Reviews and interprets plans and permit applications;
  • Maintains thorough and accurate records of zoning determinations;
  • Assists in the preparation of cases for Zoning Board of Adjustment, by reviewing submitted material and completing zoning reviews;
  • Responds to request for information from the public and neighborhood organizations on zoning issues;
  • Processes temporary use applications;
  • Assists the building inspector with the review of applications for small-scale building permits;
  • Assists the plans examiner with the maintenance of zoning records in conjunction with the issuance of certificates of occupancy;
  • Reports possible violations outside of area of authority to the proper City Department or outside agency; and more

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from a college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Technology, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field; and
  • Some experience in zoning, building, or land use; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Valid New Hampshire Driver's License.
