Welfare Specialist Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position performs client eligibility interviews and grants general assistance in accordance with RSA 165 and the City of Nashua Welfare General Assistance Guidelines. This position will make judgements related to the health, safety and well-being of clients based on client reports, review and verification of documentation, and other specific circumstances, as well as make judgements and decisions during one-on-one interviews with the clients and issue assistance in accordance with RSA 165 and local General Assistance Guidelines.  Knowledge of these laws, as well as other specialized knowledge of programs/resources in the community, is essential in performing the duties required.  Other responsibilities include working with department staff and assigning/monitoring duties to ensure efficient operation of the department, follows City and department policies and procedures and assists the Welfare Officer in management and day-to-day operations of the Welfare Department. This is a full-time Unaffiliated position, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and provides an excellent work life balance. The position is a grade 14, with a salary dependent upon experience.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field plus 5 years relevant work experience
  • Leadership and management training and/or experience
  • Must be proficient in use of personal computers, printers, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and Windows and other software required by this position
  • Multi-line telephone system, facsimile machine, photo copier, and misc. office equipment
  • Knowledge of municipal/state government and social services
  • Training and/or experience in public relations/customer service skills
  • Participation in training regarding other special populations (i.e.: people experiencing homelessness, mental health, substance use issues, etc.)
  • Bi-lingual skills a plus
  • Communicate through excellent written and verbal skills
  • Work effectively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team-focused environment
