Utility Operator/Wastewater

The City of Keene’s Public Works Department is looking for a full-time Utility Operator to work at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Facility!  This position is responsible for operating and monitoring all equipment at the Wastewater Treatment Facility. 

In addition to operating and monitoring all equipment, other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Performs routine operational procedures for the Wastewater Treatment Facility and associated out stations.

• Performs assigned work at the Facility which includes tank cleaning, building/grounds maintenance, and other supervised operational duties.

• Uses the City’s SCADA system for plant operation, monitoring, and alarm response.

• Monitors and adjusts laboratory instruments and equipment online, in the field, or in the laboratory in accordance with existing standards.

• Performs routine preventative maintenance of equipment and systems which includes lubrication, routine inspections, and oil changes. 

Note: This position is required to perform standby duty and respond to recall as part of the on-call rotation which includes non-regular work hours, weekends, and holidays.  In addition, when holding a CDL, this position is subject to federal commercial driver license (CDL) drug and alcohol requirements.  Must be able to respond within 60 minutes to the worksite. 

Minimum qualifications:
Highschool diploma or GED plus at least 6 months of related experience.  A valid driver’s license is required.  Grade I NH Wastewater Treatment License Operator in Training (OIT) is required within 9 months of hire.  Grade II NH Wastewater Treatment License OIT is required within 24 months of hire.  Grade I NH Wastewater Collections Certification is required within 24 months of hire.  Valid Commercial Driver’s License with tank endorsement is required within 12 months of hire!

Pay and Benefits:
During the 6-month probationary period, the pay range for this position is $21.90- $23.92 per hour.  Upon successful completion of the probationary period, this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $24.20- $28.86 per hour, depending on experience.
