Recreation Specialist-28 hours weekly

Concord Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic and energetic person to fill a new permanent part time Recreation Specialist position. This new position is responsible for the planning, organizing, and running our senior citizens program at our Concord and Penacook locations.

Due to programming and event supervision, hours may change on a weekly basis and may include evening and some weekend hours. Normal work week will be 25-28 hours a week, year-round. Work hours will typically be Monday - Friday 9 am to 3pm, however as programs and participation varies so will the hours. Some evenings and weekends.

This position includes paid vacation, sick and holiday as well as short term disability, long term disability, and paid family medical leave.  City employees also enjoy a member guest rate for golf at Beaver Meadow, a family pool pass and a Concord Public Library card.

Examples of Duties 

o    Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director
o    Works on organizing, planning and supervising events for our senior citizens.
o    Assist with promoting all senior events and programs through press releases, posters and other marketing resources.
o    Assist with the gathering of program surveys, compiling results in excel and preparing reports on findings using Microsoft word.
o    Ensures all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner such as contracts, time sheets, attendance reports and maintenance reports. 
o    Follows established procedures regarding accidents, discipline or facility problems.  
o    Follows and enforces department rules and regulations. 
o    Strives to establish positive public relations for the Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Concord. 
o    May be required to lift items that weigh more than 25 lbs.
o    Meets with Community Partners to plan events 

Typical Qualifications

Associates Degree in education, recreation or closely related field of study and at least 2 years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience working specifically with Senior Citizens will be considered. Applicants must have current Red Cross First Aid and Infant & Child CPR. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and will be required to pass a Criminal Background Check and Driving Check.

Pay range to start: $22.98 to $26.04 depending on qualifications and experience. Top of wage scale is $30.92.
