The Town of New Durham seeks a seasoned law enforcement professional to become its next Chief of Police. The Town requires a progressive law enforcement leader who is capable of guiding the police department through the challenges of servicing a growing community located in northern Strafford County, in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
The Police Chief is a full-time, department head position responsible for supervising, directing, and managing all administrative and technical aspects of the Department. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required as well as thorough knowledge of modern administration and practices including community policing concepts. The Chief of Police reports directly to the Board of Selectmen and works closely with the Town Administrator. Must be capable of developing positive relationships with employees, town officials, and the public as well as have an ability to direct the development of the departmental budget and budget adherence throughout the year. The Town requires a collaborative and accessible Chief who fosters an environment where safety, teamwork, and public responsiveness are paramount. Successful candidates will possess in-depth knowledge of law enforcement administration and services. Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college is strongly desired. Certification by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council (or transferable certificate) with ten years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement and five years of progressive supervisory and administrative experience required.
