DPW Equipment Operator

The Town of Swanzey Department of Public Works seeks applications for the position of DPW Equipment Operator in the Highway Division. The competitive hourly rate for this full time benefited position will be dependent on qualifications and includes paid time off and holidays, retirement account contributions, and health/dental insurance or opt out payment.

This position will drive commercial dump trucks and operate heavy equipment including but not limited to a backhoe, loader, and road grader. CDL required and five plus years’ experience operating heavy equipment and/or driving commercial vehicles preferred. Day to work will include work related to road repaving and reconstruction, maintenance of road drainage systems, reconstruction and maintenance of sidewalks, and other similar related projects. In the winter, the DPW Equipment Operator will be on call for weather events and will participate in salting, plowing, and other winter maintenance operations. Winter operations during off hours lead to overtime and employee receives a weekly on call stipend.

The Highway Division maintains 65 miles of Town maintained roads, including 11 miles of dirt road, and an additional 9 miles of State roads that the Town maintains in the winter.  The Town owns 11 bridges, including four wooden covered bridges.  The Town also owns and maintains two dams around Wilson Pond and one at Swanzey Lake.
