Position: Director of Community Development, Full-Time, Exempt Role

The Town of Amherst, NH, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Community Development to lead our planning, zoning, building, historic, code enforcement, and economic development activities. This pivotal role involves managing a customer service-oriented office and ensuring orderly growth and strategic planning aligned with community needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice to business leaders and local agencies regarding development planning.
  • Conduct technical reviews of applications and ensure compliance with town regulations.
  • Oversee zoning, health, and code compliance for permits and development.
  • Facilitate communications among various town boards and commissions.
  • Manage departmental staff and plan innovative, long-term projects for community advancement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Science, Engineering, Public Administration, or Planning.
  • Five years of relevant management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of urban and regional planning, civil engineering, and economic development.
  • AICP certification is preferred.
