Deputy Health Officer

The Town of Plaistow, NH is seeking a Deputy Health Officer to assist with all matters relating to the duties of the Health Officer and the Plaistow Health Department. The Deputy Health Officer is appointed by the NH Department of Health and Human Services and is an important and trusted point of contact for local concerns and fulfills a critical role in enforcing public health laws and proposing local health-related ordinances. This position reports to the Health Officer. This position is an on-call and an annual stipend of $3,900 to cover times when the Health Officer is not available, and to assist with larger incidents and issues.

Responsibilities include: inspection, investigation, & enforcement, emergency. planning & response, public education & outreach, external committees & organizations.

Qualifications & Education Requirements: Ability to pass a criminal background check. Must complete a 3 hour introductory course within the first year of appointment. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public health, public administration, life sciences, health science, nursing, or similar. Possess or possess within 6 months of hire, FEMA IS 100, 200, 700, & 800. This position is on-call and may be required to respond 24/7/365.

Preferred Skills: Strong communication skills and attention to detail in documentation. Initiative to develop appropriate solutions and seek guidance when necessary. Commitment to safety. Ability to understand and interpret laws, rules, ordinances and regulations. Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality regarding State and town records. Independent and fair judgment and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, cellular phones, portable radios, web based applications, and computer applications.
