Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer

The Town of Chester is seeking a Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer to handle the overall supervision of the Building Department under the administrative direction of the Selectboard.  The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge of the International Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Residential, and Electrical Codes as well as State and Local Codes.  S/he should have experience with permit issuance, plans review, inspections, and the enforcement of zoning ordinances.  A desire to serve the community and a strong customer service attitude are a must.

This employee will be responsible for plans review of proposed projects for code and zoning compliance; the issuance of appropriate permits and the collection of associated permit fees, impact fees, and fines as necessary; inspection of buildings, homes, plumbing, heating, electrical, and septic systems under construction to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances; and the enforcement of the Town’s zoning ordinances.

Labor Grade:  15.  Minimum rate for this Grade is $30/hour; actual wage can be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.  The Town of Chester offers an excellent benefits package.
