TAX COLLECTOR

The Town of Milford is seeking a highly-responsible candidate for Tax Collector.  This position is in charge of executing the tax billing, collecting and processing payments, both electronically and manually within the software system. A detail-oriented professional is sought to maintain almost six thousand accounts totally over 48M in annual property tax. The Collector is required to process tax liens, abatements, refunds and financial adjustments as needed. The Collector will assist with other receivables as required. The Collector works under the general supervision of the Finance Director, planning and implementing regular work in accordance with Town procedures and NH State laws, with substantial responsibility for determining the sequence and timing of action with substantial independence in planning and organizing work activities, including determining work methods.  Solves most problems independently.  Occasionally, individual taxpayer situations are discussed with the Board of Selectmen but, ordinarily, the Tax Collector manages all situations. The Collector has access to confidential information related to tax and/or real estate lawsuits and bankruptcy filings.  A full job description is located on the Town’s website.

Requirements The successful candidate will have three to five years related job experience with at least (1) one year in a municipal environment; a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration, or a combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the capacity to process a volume of taxes comparable to the that of the Town of Milford’s tax base.  Experience with Accounts Receivable using GAAP standards. The successful candidate must be skillful in making calculations rapidly and accurately, and must possess good communication and organizational skills and be receptive to adapting to new concepts and procedures.  Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, and have working knowledge of MS Excel and Crystal Reports.  Attention to detail is essential. Knowledge of Munis a plus. 

This is a full-time position (40 hrs, M-F 8:00 – 4:30) with the Town of Milford with a wage range of $70k to $80k annually.  Starting wage will be dependent on experience.  We offer a highly competitive benefits package that includes health, dental, LTD/STD, life insurance, paid vacation, paid sick leave, enrollment into the NH Retirement System and more!
