PARAMEDIC POSITION OPPORTUNITIES
The Canaan Emergency Services Department is seeking applications from candidates for the positions of Paramedic.
Recently authorized to expand personnel, the Canaan EMS Department consists of staff members that work a full time schedule as well as part time who respond to emergency calls to protect life and perform skilled work including but not limited to; provide transport, rescue and medical care to sick or injured patients. Candidates must possess the ability to operate in stressful situations. Requires the ability to function as a critical thinker in both non-emergency and emergency situations with appropriate decorum. Each position will include responsibilities following all departmental standard operating procedures and guidelines and function under the general direction of the Fire/EMS Chief.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license. Minimum requirements for candidates without paramedic credentialing are: Nationally Registered Paramedic. Successful candidates must be able to attain NH Providers License at time of hire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide shift coverage according to the posted schedule
- Responsible for performing routine daily operations
- Report to the EMS Operations Administrator
- Complete Patient Forms for filing purposes
- Administer medical procedures and medications according to NH state protocols
- Ensure compliance with NH Department of Safety EMS inspectional standards
- Ensure compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations
- Assist in the weekly review of patient care
- Ability to coordinate a variety of inter-related tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle work and staff under stressful situations.
- Oversight of the departments’ quality assurance and improvement program.
- Working in collaboration with the training/educational coordinator, ensuring educational excellence by developing and managing processes, which drive highly effective performance through the analysis, design, development and delivery of engaging education opportunities and training exercises
- Attending and or conduct meetings as needed with the Chief of EMS, or in his absence.
- As needed, will be available after normal business hours.
- Will do other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Licensure by the State of New Hampshire and national certification as a Paramedic preferred or the ability to attain in three (3) months.
- At least twelve (12) years of EMS experience preferred.
- AAS required or a Bachelors’ degree in EMS Management, Fire Management, Homeland Security, Public or Business Administration of a clinically related discipline as a minimum is preferred.
- Five (5) years of progressive supervisory/administration experience preferred.
- Familiarity with EMS related legislation and rules and regulations of the State of New Hampshire and in the administration of emergency medical services.
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in all dealings with the staff and the public.
- Clear, concise communication skills both verbal and written.
- Highly qualified to establish and execute detailed work schedules and records, property and equipment control and security.
- Demonstrated skill in the leadership of personnel utilizing critical decision capabilities in a non-stressful or stressful environment.
- Team environment advocate.
- Proficient with commonly utilized software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proven experience in EMS/Fire as educational environment.
Must be abreast of new developments and current trends in emergency medicine.
