Building and Utilities Inspector

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Building Department Manager, this position performs the primary job duties of Electrical Inspector but may also include mechanical, plumbing, and building inspections. This position enforces all provisions of the current adopted City of Nashua plumbing, electrical, mechanical and building codes in the erection, addition to, alteration, repair, removal, demolition, installation of service equipment as well as the occupancy and maintenance of all buildings and structures; review plans and specifications as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm, is part of the UAW Clerical/Technical Bargaining Unit and provides an excellent work life balance. The position is grade 13, with an hourly rate ranging between $32.19 - $34.67.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma plus two (2) years of college courses or degree necessary to become an Electrical Systems Inspector in the State of New Hampshire, Blueprints/schematics, NFPA 70, National Electrical Code courses, construction, fire protection systems, HVAC systems, etc.; a combination of experience and education will be considered
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Master Electrician or Inspector of commercial, industrial, and residential facilities in both construction and maintenance/repair
  • Must successfully pass the testing requirements for a One/Two Family Combination Inspector within two years of hire
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have ability to diffuse hostile behavior and effectively supervise others
  • Knowledge and experience with municipal utility and building codes and procedures
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Windows and MS Professional Office Suite
  • Must have ability to use all software relevant to the position within 90 days of hire
  • Must possess valid driver's license
