Welfare Specialist

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position performs client eligibility interviews and grant general assistance in accordance with RSA 165 and the City of Nashua Welfare General Assistance Guidelines, makes judgements related to the health, safety and well-being of clients based on client reports, review and verification of documentation, and other specific circumstances and makes judgements and decisions during one-on-one interviews with the clients and issue assistance in accordance with RSA 165 and local General Assistance Guidelines. This position will work with department staff to ensure efficient operation of the department and must follow City and department policies and procedures. This is a full-time Unaffiliated position, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and provides an excellent work life balance. The hourly rate is dependent upon experience. This position is grant funded and subject to renewal.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field, plus 5 years relevant work experience. A combination of relevant education and work experience may be considered
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers, printers, Microsoft Professional Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel and Windows, and any other software required by this position
  • Knowledge of municipal/state governments and social services is preferred, along with training and/or experience on the application of State Statutes and municipal Welfare Guidelines
  • Must be able to communicate through excellent written and verbal skills
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
