Land Use & Resilience Planner

Join our Land Use Planning and Resilience Team

 

The Rockingham Planning Commission (RPC) is seeking to add to our team of community resilience oriented regional planners. As a member of the Land Use and Resilience team, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing land use plans that enhance the resilience of our communities. You will work closely with stakeholders, municipal boards, community organizations, and private sector partners, to create strategies that mitigate risks and promote sustainable development.

The position will provide services directly to municipalities and land use boards and commissions including application and plan review, ordinance and regulation development, master plan preparation and work with other RPC staff on a variety of land use, transportation, economic development, and environmental projects. In addition, the position may include:

Work directly with local land use boards to incorporate resilience and sustainability principles into community decision making and actions. This will include attendance at evening meetings.

Collaborate with stakeholders to gather input and build consensus on land use strategies including housing, environmental protection, climate resilience strategies and economic development.

Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify areas at risk from climate change and other environmental hazards.

Prepare and present reports, and other documentation to support land use planning initiatives.

Stay up to date with the latest research, trends, and best practices in resilience planning and land use.

Applicants should possess:

 A bachelor's or master's degree in urban or environmental planning or a related discipline and three to five years of relevant professional work experience.

 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

 Strong understanding of community development, climate change impacts, sustainability principles, and risk assessment methodologies.

 A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary and attendance at evening meetings is required.

 This is a full-time, 40-hour, week position. Starting salary range of $60,000 - $65,000;  salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
