Code Enforcement Officer

The Town of Swanzey (pop. 7,200) located in southwestern New Hampshire’s Monadnock Region seeks a qualified individual to serve as its next Code Enforcement Officer. The Code Enforcement Officer also serves as the Deputy Health Officer, E911 liaison, and is a critical member of the Town’s Planning Department team. Responsibilities include review of proposed project plans for code and zoning compliance; the issuance of appropriate permits and the collection of associated permit fees and fines as necessary; inspection of buildings, homes, plumbing, heating, electrical, and septic systems under construction to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances; and the enforcement of the Town’s zoning ordinances.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the International Building Code and five years of relevant experience. Experience as a building inspector, code enforcement officer, fire inspector, or equivalent is strongly preferred. Occasional attendance at evening meetings will be required as needed.
