Fire Chief
The Town of Milford, NH, a community of approximately 15,500 in southern NH, is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Fire Chief. The Fire Department is comprised of 4 FT fire personnel, a PT administrative assistant, and 30 +/- call firefighters. The Chief is responsible for the direction of all rescue, firefighting, fire prevention, life safety, and fire service-related activities of the Town; for developing recommendations for the protection of life and property in the community; and for planning, directing and controlling all department activities and equipment.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience with the following critical areas: budgeting, fire ground management, incident command, emergency management and crafting collaborative interagency relationships.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or closely related field and 10 years of experience in fire service with at least 5 years of supervisory experience; or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills & abilities. The Fire Chief also serves as the Director of the Town’s Emergency Management Services.
Requirements:
- Supervisory experience (required)
- A current State of NH or Pro-Board Firefighter Level II (required)
- Fire Officer II certification or equivalent (required)
- Fire Instructor I (required),
- Incident Command System Level 300 (required)
- Hazardous Materials Operations (required)
- A valid NH CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements (required)
- State Fire Instructor and/or Fire Officer certification (preferred)
- Advanced EMT certification with a valid State of NH EMS license (preferred).
- Strong experience managing a call force (required)
This is an FT exempt position within the Town’s compensation structure. The starting salary range for this position is $70,000 - $95,000 depending on qualifications and experience with full Town benefits package. A complete job description is available on the Town’s web page at www.milford.nh.gov.
