Starting salary is negotiable, with special consideration given to previously certified, full-time officers from New Hampshire, or from other states, as well as other applicable experience.  SUMMARY:

The New Durham Police Department is looking to fill an immediate opening for the position of patrol officer within the department. The New Durham Police Department delivers quality community-based policing in active partnership with the citizens we serve. The Department has 5 full-time sworn officers and services a community of approximately 2,700 residents.  New Durham borders the towns of Farmington, Alton, Brookfield, Wolfeboro, and Middleton.

We are seeking career and community-oriented individuals who desire to be part of a professional and progressive department. Ideal candidates for our Patrol Officer vacancy would communicate effectively both orally and in writing, support administrative functions, and work effectively under the direction of superiors, as well as the ability to develop positive relationships with both town employees and residents.

Applicants must be knowledgeable in the techniques and practices of law enforcement.  Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and local laws & regulations related to the regular practice of law enforcement.

 TYPICAL DUTIES:

Facilitate safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Promote and preserve the peace at public gatherings, neighborhood disputes and family quarrels.

Respond promptly to all calls and assignments providing any required services on an emergency basis.

Accurately record information concerning activity and events handled during the tour of duty, including the securing, recording, and proper transporting of all evidence and property coming into the   Department.

Maintain weapons and equipment in a functional, presentable condition at all times.

Serve or deliver warrants, summonses, subpoenas, and other official papers promptly and accurately when so directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be able to meet the minimum qualifications for certification as set forth by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council. Applicants who are NH Certified Police Officers or who have taken the Great Bay Community College and/or New Hampshire Technical Institute Police Exam(s) are preferred. Applicants must make note of having taken such test(s) on their respective application. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent; a college degree is preferred and must hold a valid driver’s license.
